Scott Hannan May Suck

Oh boy. Guys, gals, hounds, you may want to sit down for this one. Go ahead, grab a chair, we will wait.

Ya'll good? Alright, cool. Listen guys, we don't want to keep you for long, so we will just come out and say it.

Scott Hannan may suck.

Presented for your consideration, a little table we like to call 'Why The Hell Won't Scott Hit Anybody?':

(Psst...The Human Screen is Hannan.)

Now, lets put Hannans suckage, derived from his unwillingness to throw the body on anybody, into context. Hannan's H/60 is actually higher than J Blowsoverthelegallimit's 2.0 (see, silver lining, Flames fans) but lower than Matt Stajan's 3.66. Yes, you read that right.

So, quick count: Hitters on the blueline: Mark 'Do It Like A' Giordano. Non-hitters on the blueline: Everyone else.

Yeah, this is going to work out. What does intimidation do for a team, anyways?

Furthermore, I think Peter Louardias Ken King should be fired.

  1. Love the link for 'What does intimidation do for a team anyways?'

Now that's a period at the end of a sentence.

  2. Is there a correlation between hitting and winning? You could bolster your criticism of Hannan by determining whether his reluctance to hit people would have any appreciable affect on the Flames' success on the ice.

  4. Perhaps the Devils were more than just Scott Stevens, and perhaps they've had success with and without Scott Stevens. Perhaps this means that hockey is more than hitting. Therefore, perhaps, a sound and reasonable argument about Hannans inability or unwillingness to hit people and the negative affect that could have on the Flames would include some evidence that more hitting equates to more wins and more championships.

    Perhaps, Beeker.

  5. DB, who is this clown?

Hey beeks, please go watch what happened at this years Cup. You will find that the team that hit won. Perhaps you dont watch hockey though. Perhaps.

  6. Barker>>>Hannan.

THis is coming from someone who isn't a fan of the Barker signing. Hannan is atrocious but given the depth at D for the Flamers courtesy of KK/Fatso he'll be playing top four minutes.

    And that is sad.

  7. Why do you suggest Giordano is the only hitter on the Flames' blueline? In 2010/11, his H/60 was 4.428. That's not a whole lot better than Hannan and a lot less than Sarich's 7.732. Sarich's H/60 were better than Regehr's for the past three years as well (7.732, 7.657 and 5.916).

  8. 2 hits took the pens out of the race last year, that's pretty good production

proving in one fell swoop that hitting a lot doesn't necessarily make for a better defender.
